Blossom of Siberian bluebells

The Zagryazhsky-Stroganovs’ estate park is known for its remarkable beauty that fills it in spring. Every April it is covered with a wonderful thick carpet of millions of bluebells creating intricate patterns of all shades of blue. The ultramarine blanket stretches in the depth of the park wandering around the trees. To experience the extraordinary natural attraction, one should visit the park early in the morning or in the evening.

Among the bluebells you will spot the heads of anemones, clusters of lungwort and fumewort swinging in the wind. Beautiful scenery and unusual color of the old park can never be spoiled even by the changing April weather.

The estate is associated with Sergey Stroganov’s name. He was a Maecenas and a collector of paintings. With his own money he built and supported a painting school in Moscow that provided free education. Later it was renamed into Stroganov art school. Count Stroganov used to have many friends – prominent figures in various fields. Some of them used to visit Znamenka estate. Talented landscape painter Fyodor Vasilyev was a frequent guest at the count’s.

Pushkin’s wife’s name – Natalia Goncharova – is often associated with Znamenka. A baby girl called Natalia Nikolayevna was born here on the day after Borodino battle, August, 27, 1812. She was to be great Russian poet’s wife.
